Whether you're buying for your first dorm room or your first home, IKEA will always have something you need. Plus you get to reward yourself with a hot dog at the end, lol. The Swedish words and giant maze can be overwhelming, I get it. Let's take a look at some staple IKEA pieces that you won't regret buying in two years time.

ACCENT CHAIRS

Finding a tasteful accent chair can be tricky at IKEA, especially when searching on their website gives you almost 600 results. We're looking for something neutral and somewhat timeless, depending on your personal style. Here we have a modern option, a 'vintage' style, and a more bohemian / natural option.
LIGHTING

Be careful here friends, IKEA has no shortage of tacky lighting options that are easy to get tricked into buying. Again, we're looking for pieces that feel elevated and look expensive. You don't have to break the bank on a beautiful light fixture!
RUGS

Growing up is realizing that rugs are significantly overpriced, and also that you need a rug, lol. Trust me, you'll save thousands by buying your rugs here, and there are a ton of cute options. When in doubt, keep it neutral and simple.
THROW PILLOWS

Remember, when you're looking for a set of throw pillows to group together, you should have one solid, one textured, and one patterned option. To make it look like you really have your life together, you'll want at least 2 throw pillows on each side of your sofa, and 3 on your bed. Always go for the down filled option!
TABLES

It's time to part ways with the tables that look like a slab of plastic-y wood with 4 block legs on them and opt for something that looks more expensive. Don't forget how big of an impact styling can have on any table in your home.
SOFAS & SECTIONALS

Honestly with your sofa, less is usually more. Think simple, straight lines and bright neutrals.
IKEA is for everyone! Perfect for any budget, any space, and any time in your life, as long as you aren't buying the same set of MALM furniture as every other university student.
